Of late, many male youngsters are requiring removal of white hair mainly from their face. These young males are in the age group of 20 to 35 years.

Causes of hair turning white

Human beings have millions of hair follicles on the skin and scalp of the head. The skin including the scalp of the head has tiny holes or pores (ostium) into the hair follicles. The function of the follicle is to grow hair. The hair follicle looks like a curved tunnel-shaped structure situated in the epidermis (outer layer of the skin). The hair growth starts at the bottom of the hair follicle. The bottom of the hair follicle is connected to the blood vessels from where the root of the hair is made up of protein (keratin) draws its nutrition. The sebaceous glands producing sebum or natural oil, located near the hair follicle keeps the hair and the scalp lubricated. The pigment cells in the hair follicle which contains melanin give the hair sharp black colour. As the human being ages, the pigment cells will gradually produce lesser melanin and hair will become more transparent in colour, like grey, silver, or white. Eventually, all the hair will turn to be completely gray.

Structure of Hair Follicle: the hair follicle and the hair shaft

The hair follicle has the following parts:
Bulb: The bulb is situated at the root of the hair where the protein cells (keratin) form the hair.

Papilla: The blood vessel is connected to the papilla, a form where healthy hair grows with vigour and vitality.

Germinal Matrix: At the bottom of the hair follicle germinal matrix is situated, where the cells produce new hair.

Bulge: In the middle of the hair follicle bulge is located. The hair follicle is regenerated by the stem cells present here. The sebaceous glands and epidermis are also regenerated by the stem cells in this region.

Arrector Pili Muscle: Arrector pili muscles, also known as hair erector muscles are tiny muscle tissues that attach to the base of the hair follicle at one end and to dermal tissue on the other end. When the body is cold the arrector pili muscles contract all at once to generate heat in the body, causing the hair to “Stand up straight” on the skin. The same effect is encountered when one experience goosebumps (piloerection).

Functions of Hair Follicle

Hair follicles play a vital role in deciding how hair should look, straight hair or curly hair. This is determined by the shape of the follicle. If the hair follicle is circular, it produces straight hair and if the hair follicle is oval, it produces curlier hair.

What colour of hair a person will get is also determined by the presence of a pigment called melanin, stored in the hair follicle. There are basically two types of melanin – eumelanin and pheomelanin. The colour of the hair depends on the quantum of melanin present in the follicle which is determined by the variation of hormones in one’s body. The presence of lots of melanin will result in the production of black hair, If the eumelanin is moderate, it will result in the production of brown hair. If the melanin is present scantily, hair will grow in blonde (pale yellow or gold hair). And if pheomelanin is present in sizable quantity the colour of the hair will be red.

However, when age progresses the ability of the hair follicle to produce melanin diminishes, and as a result, it is observed that hair turn to grey or white hair.

Hair Shaft

The part of the hair seen above the skin is called the hair shaft. The hair shaft consists of a cortex, cuticle cells and medulla for some type of hair.

Hair Growth Cycle

One needs to have rudimentary knowledge about the hair growth cycle to appreciate how does electrolysis hair removal work.
There are four stages of hair removal. They are Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen.

1. Anagen (growth phase)

The anagen phase is the active growth phase of the hair growth cycle. During this phase it is observed that within a period of 28 days the hair grows about 1 cm. The cells in the root of the hair divide rapidly during this phase adding length to the hair shaft. This rate is impacted by age, hair type, and overall health of the individual.

The duration of the anagen phase varies from person to person and it is genetically determined. Further it also varies based on different parts of the human body, viz., scalp, face,, neck, chest, back, stomach, bikini area, genitals, hands, legs etc., The duration of the anagen phase is the longest in the scalp compared to upper lip.

It is still not found out what causes the anagen phase to stop and catch up on the next phase that is catagen. An unknown signal causes the follicle to change the phase.

2. Catagen (transitional phase)

During the catagen phase, the hair detaches from its blood supply this occurs at the end of anagen phase and lasts for about 2-3 weeks.

3. Telogen (resting phase)

During the telogen phase the hair is not growing and the follicle rests for almost 3 months. After the 3 months period another new hair is grown from the papilla which is the beginning of anagen phase of the new hair.

4. Exogen (shedding phase)

Exogen is the final phase of the hair and it is only a few seconds when the hair is shredded off from the follicle.

White hair removal using electrolysis technology

Unwanted hair is permanently removed by giving electrolysis hair removal treatment. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of removing all kinds of hair permanently.

Hair removed in the anagen stage will never come back. Many people want to remove the white hair on their faces individually which is possible only by electrolysis and the white hair removed during the anagen phase will never grow back. The best thing about electrolysis is that it doesn’t depend on the pigment of the hair.

It has no side effects and is always safer to get the electrolysis treatment done by professionally trained electrologists.

The ability of hair follicles to produce melanin decreases as one age and as a result, grey and white hair strands are visible.

The Risk Factor of White Hair Removal

As already explained the hair grows to grey or white due to less production of melanin. And greying of the hair doesn’t happen overnight. Therefore, when grey hair is treated by electrolysis there is a possibility that more and more new hair is turning to grey which has to be treated and this will become a continuous process.

It is well established that removing hair with next-gen electrolysis will totally eliminate regrowth of unwanted hair.

Researchers have been going on over a century and many methods were adopted for camouflaging visible hair. However, they were not giving a permanent solution for preventing unwanted hair growth. They were all temporary in nature.

The good news is that unwanted hair can be removed permanently through electrolysis treatments. The treatment involves placing a sterile probe into the follicle and transmitting a small amount of high-frequency radio waves energy into the follicle. It cauterizes the hair regenerative cells and the hair is then removed. Once the regenerative cells have been eliminated, there is no possible way for the hair to be reproduced.

Electrolysis hair removal is the only method approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for permanent hair removal.

The technique can be effectively performed for permanent hair removal only by a professionally trained electrologist.

The period taken for treatment depends on the intensity of growth of the unwanted hair, the area to be treated, and the spread of growth. The period of treatment may vary anywhere between 12 to 18 months in total.

Irrespective of the colour of skin or hair, electrolysis technique can be applied to anyone because it treats the hair follicle itself and not the pigment in the hair.

Everything that you need to know about permanent bikini line hair removal

Hair removal at bikini lines permanently is all about removing hair using the technique of electrolysis hair removal. Women get the hair removed from the bikini line for the purpose of aesthetic, hygiene or fashion or some other reasons. Without razor burns and to avoid repeated shaving and/or waxing you should go for electrolysis hair removal.

The area between the inner thigh and upper leg is the bikini which is not covered by bikini suits, and it is highly embarrassing for anybody to notice this and stare at you.

Getting Electrolysis done is the only FDA approved and permanent solution for hair removal. If you are seriously considering going for electrolysis for removing the hair permanently you need to know about this and prepare yourself before you visit the electrolysis hair removal clinic.

Tips to follow before you get electrolysis on the bikini line area

The first thing you should do is find out the right electrolysis clinic, who can remove pubic hair professionally. Undergo (preferably) an online consultation before you visit the Electrolysis clinic. Laser ( Also read: It is no more Hair Reduction It is PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL) will never remove hair permanently. It can only ensure growth reduction. (Also read: How ingrown hair develops after laser and how to get rid of ingrown hair from your bikini line, armpits and legs).

Electrolysis is a course of treatment, which is to be repeated every fortnight for a period of 9 to 18 months. The initial few sessions will take longer, maybe up to 3 to 4 hours depending upon the thickness of your hair growth – don’t expect that the hair will stop immediately after the first few sittings. It will take three to four months for you to realise that the thickness of the hair is reducing.

Before you go for electrolysis it is advisable to trim the hair, not very close to the skin. A few days growth is required for the electrolysis to do the process of electrolysis.

You should be mentally prepared that it may cause slight irritation when the process of electrolysis is done. And after the session is over the skin may be reddish and there may be slight swelling. Nothing to worry, it is quite normal and it will go away within a few hours. However, for some, it may remain for a few days. Ask to advise from the electrologist for applying the right gel.

Never use any cosmetics other than the gel suggested by the electrologist and it is safe to apply soap while bathing and cleaning the area.

Ensure that the electrologist is professionally trained in a good institute and check their certification.

Make sure that the electrologist and you both are wearing a face mask. Insist on the electrologist wearing gloves throughout the procedure.

Electrolysis is done using a thin one time use of the disposable probe. Make sure that each time the electrologist uses new probes and the used one is disposed of.

Try to avoid doing electrolysis on the bikini line during the time of periods. Since the process is to be repeated every fortnight, plan the timing according to your menstrual cycle.

Follow the after-treatment precautions advised by your electrologist.

There was always confusion whether Electrolysis Permanent Hair removal through electrolysis comes under medical or beauty treatment. Electrolysis was never included under medical treatment since the insertion of the probes is only skin deep. Further, the expertise of a medical professional is not required for performing the task of electrolysis. Electrolysis could be performed by a trained electrology specialist.

Need for Professional Training in Scientific Electrolysis

Till the foundation of LASE Acadamea under the initiative of LiLi Scientific Electrolysis, no formal professional training was available in India for Electrolysis.

The company who brought this to India, trained electrologist only for working in their clinics. And they did not give any formal certification to anyone who had undergone training under them.

A few of those who got training in this manner established their electrolysis clinics. However, there was a dearth of information available in a selection of the right equipment for electrolysis, and lack of trained electrologists.

Some smart entrepreneurs even started electrolysis clinics without giving any training to their staff, by employing freshers who were shown videos on electrolysis. This has led to a lot of complaints from customers following side-effects of improper treatment. This, to a certain extent, tarnished the image of the efficacy of electrolysis treatment mainly in Kerala where electrolysis is most popular. However, this has created a general awareness of electrolysis in Kerala.

Courses Offered by LASE Acadamea

There are an array of courses offered to freshers, keeping in view the potential for a lucrative career as a specialist in electrolysis. There are courses designed for skills up-gradation and high-end skills development courses.

Express course in the electrolysis is also offered by LASE Acadamea to cater to the needs of professionals in the medical field and also for those who do not possess a formal certification.

Counselling the clients is an important skill in electrolysis since clients would have questions. To address them, courses are offered in the domain of Electrolysis Consultation and Electrolysis Clinic Management.

Electrolysis as a professional career

In India electrolysis is popular only in a few places like Hyderabad and Kerala. However, the failure of all other methods of hair removal for removing hair growth permanently has made clients look for solutions for hair removal permanently, where electrolysis is getting prominence.

The availability of formal training offered by LASE Acadamea has also made many entrepreneurs establish their electrolysis clinics across the country. Therefore, there is ample opportunity for setting up your clinic or getting employed as an electrology specialist.

Our approach to unwanted hair growth problem needs a new dimension. The age-old proven technology of electrolysis permanent hair removal is not properly understood in India and other Asian countries.

SHERLY KOLLANNUR, Chief Consultant Electrologist, a veteran in the permanent hair removal electrolysis technology since 1993, having experience in India and abroad has brought her venture, LiLi Scientific Electrolysis through setting up several LiLi Permanent Hair Removal Clinics in Kerala in the South and Delhi and Ghaziabad under the National Capital Region (NCR) in the North and aims to impart the knowledge that hair removal is no more reduction of hair growth, but permanently arresting the re-growth of unwanted hair.

The perception of unwanted hair growth is completely intertwined with the wellness of the mind, level of confidence, body and spirits. The world is embracing this knowledge of the science of electrolysis hair removal, and it brings with it the technology that unwanted hair can be completely removed and re-growth can be permanently arrested scientifically.

Named best Electrologist in India, many times over, Sherly Kollannur has collaborated with Canada based Clement Beaumont, President, Dectro International, who are the world leaders in innovating state-of-the-art electro-epilation technology, Dr Joshna Gordon, Director of NIOS Permanent Hair Removal Centre, New York and many more to create electrolysis treatment a platform to transform how effectively unwanted hair can be removed permanently.

Sherly Kollannur, by founding LASE Acadamea for imparting training in Scientific Electrolysis to impart an integrated skill development, where all aspects of electrolysis theory and practice are taught, has bridged the gap between the demand and supply of skilled Electrologist in India and Asian countries.

The Diploma in Scientific Electrolysis (DSE), offered by LASE Acadamea, the only one of its kind in South Asia, is in great demand from within India and abroad.

Sherly has brought the most sophisticated technology in electrolysis high-frequency radio waves in treating permanent hair removal by introducing Apilus range of electrolysis machines, manufactured by Dectro International, to India.

A new culture is also set by her by using disposable insulated probes instead of needles to the Asian countries.

Finally, let us not forget that Sherly Kollannur is also a global trainer and teacher of Scientific Electrolysis and has been on several television channels in India and abroad as an expert for shows about the practice of electrolysis.

Apart from all the above, she offers 360° consultancy for setting up state-of-the-art Electrolysis Permanent Hair Removal Clinics globally. She has been instrumental in setting up several Scientific Electrolysis Clinics in India, UAE, Sri Lanka and other Asian countries.

With five clinics presently running in India, two in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the remaining three clinics in Kerala. She has plans to start twenty more clinics in India, and a chain of Clinics in south-east Asia, and one in London also.

So, with the availability of Scientific Electrolysis in the Indian market, why not start treating unwanted hair growth from LiLi Permanent Hair Removal Clinic across India.

It results from excess male hormones, called androgens. Certain medical condition induces male-pattern hair growth on females. This is also hereditary. Hirsutism generally isn’t preventable. A woman with the mildest form of hirsutism may notice significant growth of hair on the upper lip, chin, and sideburn area and around the nipples or lower abdomen.

PCOS is a condition which causes hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems in a woman that may affect their overall health and appearance. The condition releases high levels of male hormones and not enough female hormones in the body. Excess hair growth also occurs due to hormone variations caused by reasons other than PCOS like lifestyle ailments, eating habits, and heredity.

WHAT ARE THE REMEDIES FOR ARRESTING HIRSUTISM?

More than 10 million cases of hirsutism are reported in India, It is usually self-diagnosable. Treatment is done using electrolysis permanent hair removal technology approved by the FDA. All other methods including laser hair removal are temporary. In electrolysis, treatment is given to each follicle by inserting an insulated probe and cauterizing the live hair. When the hair is in the dormant stage one has to wait for fresh hair to grow, so that the same may be cauterized when the hair is in the live stage. The treatment must be done by a professionally trained and skilled person. Otherwise, some reaction may occur due to mal-treatment. There is no administration of any medicines or chemicals. So it is 100% safe, without any side effects.

Sherly Kollannur

Chief Consultant Electrologist and

Certified Trainer in Electrology from Canada

Lase Acdamea- LiLi Scientific Electrolysis
